Head Karate Instructor: Brad Mosiman

Mind & Body

A practitioner of martial arts for the past 40 years, Brad Mosiman has studied a multitude of disciplines including Tatsu-Do karate, Okinawan Shorinji Ryu karate,Tatsu-Do jujitsu, and Daitoryu Aiki Jujitsu. Desiring a more comprehensive set of skills that embodied the best of several styles, Brad prescribed to the Japanese philosophy that says, “Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher.” To that end, our plucky little pebble plunked down into the pond, first in Livonia before his ripple widened out to Long Island, Detroit, and South Carolina until finally crossing the Pacific to Toyko.

“You are no longer in charge of my biography,” Brad said, frowning, reading his wife’s Nobel Peace Prize-worthy writing, “I’ll do it myself.”

“Fine,” she huffed, “If you want boring…I’ll give you boring.”

Brad holds ranks under the following teachers, listed here in a monotonously alphabetical order:

Joe Brogna, William Cavalier, Jr., Seigo Okamoto, Roy Osborne, Howard Popkin, and Roy Suenaka

“Much better,” Brad said, nodding his approval.

His wife (and the readers of this biography) yawned.

Well-respected by everyone except his immediate family, Brad has been teaching since 1990. What he lacks in humor, creativity, and charisma, he more than makes up for in seasoned skill and tireless dedication. He won’t stroke your ego but he will be the first one to pick you up from the mat following countless throws and falls. After he laughs at you.
